That's right. Time is money to most people these days. This is for those of you who try to save a buck doing tedious unnecessary tasks.
I have edited numerous live concert events which we filmed with multiple cameras. Sometimes upwards to 9+ HD cameras. Now Final Cut Pro added the multiclip editing functions many moons ago, but who really used it. It was a task to setup, and when you did it was like pulling teeth.
This isn't really the latest news but round about a year ago a software company by the name of Singular Software released a time saving money maker called PluralEyes to the world. This application allows FCP users (and more recently Sony Vegas users) the ability to automatically sync video/audio multicamera (even if the operator turns the cam on/off) shoots to a single audio track. For only $150.00 this stand alone application is one of the best buys that I have made for such an inexpensive piece of software.
To put this into simpler terms. This software saves the headache of painstakingly spending hours manually syncing footage to an audio track via visual/auditory markers. This is easy, yes, but on bigger projects that require multiple syncs this app kicks it! I was able to sync 5 cameras rendered at 1280x720 30p ProRes422 HQ in less than an hour. This totaled near 800GB of video for this project. Anyone who has done syncing knows that its not a pleasure.
Along with the ability to AutoSync your footage to an audio track, PluralEyes also features the ability to create a true multiclip from your autosyncd footage (including another quick step) so that you can see when the cameras are turned off/on. This is great limited the number of viewers to the amount of cameras you have instead of clips.
I will be using this application for a long time. I can see other uses for this other than Live Events. Music Videos, Cooking Shows, and even Films.
Check out the app and happy post guys!
